About this place
Just a door away from the station bustle, Hotaka welcomes visitors into a kissaten defined by lodge-like wood finishes and deep green banquettes. Cultivating a steady calm since its founding in Showa 30, the interior offers a quiet, unhurried space well suited to settling in for a while.
The food menu is refreshingly pared down to toast alone. Golden-brown bread arrives with margarine and marmalade for spreading as you like, an unadorned pleasure with enduring appeal. From opening at 8:00 until 10:00, toast and coffee are served at accessible morning rates, making it an easy spot for a peaceful start to the day.
Toast pairs effortlessly with the hot house blend, marked by a crisp and pleasant acidity, or a glass of iced coffee with a lingering finish. Viennese coffee, crowned with whipped cream that melts slowly to impart a mellow sweetness, adds to the lineup alongside kissaten classics like banana juice and ice cream.
The café is non-smoking, and payment is cash only. Whether you are opening a book solo or resting weary feet in the afternoon, Hotaka serves as an unpretentious refuge for everyday pauses.
